My Week

My week started out with Mother's Day at the in-laws. We got to see Nancy and eat good food, surrounded by about fifteen children. Noisy, but worth it.

On Monday, I finished painting my pantry doors and a started a couple of cupboard doors. I only have about ten left. I would have done more each day like I did last week, but I had a garage sale coming up, so...

On Tuesday, I prepped the garage sale items. They were mostly in the garage and in place last week, but I had to price everything. I put the top coat on the two cupboard doors I started on Monday and hung them. I went to Aidan's class to read a couple chapters out of Winnie-the-Pooh. I also managed to get some time in to study for my Stats final. I wore capris, a t-shirt and sandals. I ran through a downpour at the high school parking lot to Tristin's band concert. It was quite good. Then, I snuck out after his band and went to movie night to watch some more of North and South with my friends.

On Wednesday, I realized at 7am that I was having a garage sale and did not have any change or signs. I got to the bank by 7:10am and found, to my surprise, that the drive-thru was open. Unfortunately, Walgreen's was not, so Aaron came up with a way to make signs. I had thought about doing paper bag signs, as I had recently read about, but it took a really long time to write on them in large block letters - not to mention that there was a chance of rain, which would make the marker bleed. Aaron made some stencils and spray-painted them in a jiffy. Somehow, they were all in place by 9am, and some people followed me home, where I sat in the garage for the next 8 hours while the temperature dropped. We made $135 that day.

On Thursday, Melissa came over to sit with me at the garage sale. She brought a few things to sell. The kids played amazingly well together in the house while she, Lanie and I bundled up in blankets in the freezing garage for eight hours. We watched a silly movie called The Great Buck Howard and then watched The Sorcerer's Apprentice while it rained and rained and rained. I took the boys to Karate and missed a guy who wanted to look at the car who I had told that someone would be home. Oops. We only made about $40.

Today, I had intended to pack up the garage sale in the morning and study in the afternoon and evening. I took Katie and Aidan to Ben's recorder recital at 8:30am. He was the closing act with a solo of Scarborough Fair. It was really good. On our way to the recital, I noticed that there was a garage sale on my block with really good signage. It was getting a lot of traffic. When we came home, I opened up shop. We made another $45, plus we sold the car for $250. I closed up at around 1:00pm because I needed to get in some more studying. I was completely burnt out by 5pm. I helped Aaron and the boys pack up the garage sale and load everything into the van to take it to the church garage sale. Then, I attempted to study a little more, but finding myself exhausted, I decided to watch a movie instead. I have a 98.7% going into the final, so I am not really too worried. If I get a C, I'll still have an A in the class, and I do know the material. I had a good cry over a silly middle-school drama that I never would have watched with Aaron. It felt good and wiped away some of the exhaustion. Now, I'm wondering whether I'll get any sleep when the neighbors are having a bonfire party, complete with loud electric guitar music. My final will be at 9:15am. I hope it will be as easy as the mid-term, but I kind of doubt it.
