Katie Swims

Katie started swimming lessons this spring. Last summer, she was still intent on keeping her face out of the water, and laying on her back with water going in her ears was, to her, torture. This year things have changed.

Something sparked inside Katie at her first lesson. She obeyed her teachers and blew bubbles with her face in the water. At her next lesson, she went under water without a complaint. On her third lesson, she swam - really swam! She lifted her body up and took a few forward strokes. On Monday, she floated on her back FOREVER! Today, it seems she is trying to master the front crawl.

Katie is a bundle of energy in this class. She listens to her teacher, follows directions, and is going to pass into level two when this session is over. I have to confess that I zoned out for my last few kids' swimming lessons, but she is so engaged - it fills my heart with gladness just to watch. Motherhood is fun at moments like these.
